Bergen, Norway – 4th July

The one fact most people know about Bergen is that it rains a lot!  Over 88 inches a year on average.  And it was the only place it rained over our 2 week cruise.  We managed to avoid the rain by pre-booking a lunch time concert at Edward Grieg’s house at Troldhaugen which included the coach journey from the Tourist Office.  We had a tour of his house and visited his ‘shed’ at the bottom of the garden where he composed his music.  There’s a brand new concert hall which overlooks the lake.  His most famous work ‘In the Hall of the Mountain King’ was not played at our concert since it was just a pianist but he was very good.

Back in Bergen, we visited three museums on one ticket and which included seeing a large collection of Munch’s. We wandered around the fish market in the Bryggen Hanseatic Wharf and saw some amazing looking fish including whale meat.
